New Mexico tribes’ slot machine winnings jump

SANTA FE – State numbers show nearly all of New Mexico’s Native American gaming tribes reported year-over-year growth in slot machine winnings from their casinos.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports the state Gaming Control Board said some northern pueblos posted the biggest gains for the 2018 fiscal year.

Taos Pueblo reported raking in $7.7 million from slot players during the state fiscal year that ended June 30, a 7 percent increase from the previous fiscal year.

Tesuque Pueblo reported $21.1 million in slot revenues, up 6 percent, and Ohkay Owingeh reported $17.2 million, up 5 percent.

The board reported the net slot machine win for all gaming tribes for the 2018 fiscal year totaled more than $756 million.

The growth in the tribes’ slot winnings means more money for them to spend on education, health and other initiatives.
