The Upper San Juan Watershed Partnership will hold a public meeting to explain the group’s work from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 10 at the CSU Extension Office in Pagosa Springs, 344 U.S. Highway 84.
The new partnership is focused on enhancing water resources in the San Juan River Basin and includes a variety of water users, including representatives from the agriculture, recreation, municipal, industrial and environmental communities.
The goal of the group is to promote cooperative efforts to ensure that all water uses are met in the upper San Juan Basin. Funding for the partnership’s effort comes from the Colorado Water Conservation Board as part of the Colorado Water Plan.
The geographic area of focus includes all of the upper San Juan watershed, including the San Juan, Piedra, Navajo and Chama rivers and tributaries.
The partnership plans to work with all water users in the watershed to identify opportunities for cooperative projects to optimize water resources in preparation for a drier and warmer climate.
