Yet another tunnel car wash is being built along South Camino del Rio in Durango.

Texas-based 7B Development & Construction has begun work on a Champion Xpress Carwash located at 780 South Camino del Rio near the Durango Mall.

A building permit issued by the city of Durango on June 14 lists Champion Xpress in the description of work. Champion Xpress’ website also lists Durango as a new location coming soon.

The city permit says the building will be 5,486 square feet with a 3,584 square-foot tunnel. Efforts to reach Champion Xpress CEO Michael Murry were unsuccessful Monday.

This will be the second car wash built along South Camino del Rio in less than a year after Cascade Xpress CarWash opened in August 2022.

Cascade Xpress co-owner Michael Hert was not immediately available for comment Monday.

The incoming car wash company has 30 total locations, five of which are in Colorado and 16 in New Mexico. More recently, the company opened a location in Delta on April 19.

In June 2021, the company announced its expansion growth plan to add 70 or more locations by 2023, according to a Facebook post.

As of Monday, Durango had four stand-alone car washes, five detailing establishments and multiple car washes attached to gas stations. The Champion Xpress location will add another location along a high-traffic area within the city.

According to a Grand View Research Market Analysis Report, the U.S. car wash services market size was valued at $15.21 billion in 2022 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.7% from 2023 to 2030.
