A new turning lane – called a continuous flow left-turn lane – will open at 8 p.m. tonight near the DoubleTree intersection, the Colorado Department of Transportation said Monday.
The $6 million project, which started in March, is focused on relieving congestion and improving safety for northbound traffic on U.S. Highway 550 turning left onto Highway 160.
The left-turn lane is marked with a traffic signal that is located about 500 feet south of the Highway 550/160 intersection.
The new turning lane will allow motorists driving northbound on Highway 550 to make a left turn onto Highway 160, said Nancy Shanks, spokeswoman for Colorado Department of Transportation.
Travelers should expect a full northbound lane closure on Camino del Rio between 8 and 9 p.m. while crews move the barrier and switch the traffic signal.
There also will be single lane closures or lane shifts in both directions on Highway 160 west of the DoubleTree intersection, and north and southbound on Camino del Rio south of College Drive.
