Newly elected Colo. lawmaker apologizes for comments on Obama, minorities

Representative lectured by Republican chairman

PUEBLO – A newly elected state representative is apologizing for comments she made against former President Barack Obama, Muslims and others.

The Pueblo Chieftain reports state Rep. Judy Reyher reignited doubts that Obama was born in the U.S. and called Democrats and African-Americans racist in an interview she gave Tuesday.

Reyher’s past Facebook posts where she called the Obamas “squatters” in the White House later resurfaced on political websites.

Republican Party spokesman Daniel Cole says she has since been lectured by Colorado Republican Chairman Jeff Hays.

Reyher issued an apology for the comments in The Denver Post Thursday where she said she embraces all Americans and denied that she is racist. She began representing House District 47 after she secured six of 11 votes at the district vacancy meeting in Fowler on Monday.
