Church collecting messages for Marshal

Pine Valley Church is collecting messages from the community to show support for the Bayfield Marshal's Office. Please send emails of appreciation, thanks, gratitude, support and encouragement to appreciation2018@yahoo.com, no later than May 1. Hard copy notes and letters may be mailed or dropped off to the office at Pine Valley Church, 1328 County Road 501, Bayfield.

All of the submissions will be collectively given as a gift to the marshal and his staff at a later date.

Heart Safe holding CPR classes

Heart Safe La Plata, a local non-profit organization, is holding classes in basic first aid at 3 p.m. and adult CPR at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4.

There also is a CPR for health care providers class from 6 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11.

The location of both classes is at Durango Fire & Rescue Station 1 at 142 Sheppard Dr., Durango (In Bodo Park behind Morehart/ Murphy)

Cemetery holding spring clean-up

Pine River Cemetery staff will conduct its annual spring clean-up the first week of April. All flowers and decorations will be picked up and disposed of.

If you have any items you would like to keep, please pick them up before then. We respectfully ask that new flowers and decorations not be placed on grave locations until after the clean-up as well. Thank you for your assistance in keeping our cemetery clean and beautiful.

Mt. Allison Grange hosting Easter supper

Mt. Allison Grange members are hosting their annual Easter Supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 31. The menu includes ham, turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, hot rolls, tossed salad, homemade pie, coffee, and punch. Tickets are $12 for adults, $5 for children, and children under 6 eat free.

In addition, after the supper, we are having an Easter play, starting about 7 p.m. All are welcome to an evening of fun and great food.

Presbyterians hosting Holy Week services

Calvary Presbyterian Church will host a Palm Sunday service at 10 a.m. Sunday, March 25. A Holy Week service, incorporating Maundy Thursday and Good Friday themes, will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 29, starting with a light supper, then a prayer service. On Easter Sunday on April 1, there is a potluck at 8:30 a.m. and Easter worship at 10 a.m., followed by the annual Easter egg hunt. All are welcome to attend all Holy Week events.

Alternative Horizons seeking volunteers

Alternative Horizons, a nonprofit service agency that provides support to survivors of domestic violence in La Plata and San Juan counties, is seeking volunteer advocates to staff its 24-hour hotline.

Volunteer advocate training sessions will be held March 20-21.

Seats open on Living with Wildlife board

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners is accepting applications from residents interested in serving on its Living with Wildlife Advisory Board.

The committee assists commissioners to develop and implement programs that reduce damage to La Plata County wildlife. The volunteer position is advisory and unpaid.

Applicants are required to be residents of La Plata County.

Chapman Hill opens spring tubing

Chapman Hill is now open for tubing from noon to 4 p.m. daily on the ski hill at 500 Florida Road.

Only tubes rented from Chapman Hill are allowed on the hill, and sledding and tubing is prohibited when the hill is closed.

Rentals cost $15 and are available in the Chapman Hill Pavilion.

Tubing will continue for as long as conditions allow. For more information, call 375-7396.
