Ignacio library to host evening of music

The Ignacio Community Library Writers Group will offer an evening of music at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, at the library at 470 Goddard Ave.

The event will include "Songs for the Holidays" by the Hideaway Ukulele Society; music by David Quiroz, Grant Andrews and Chris Vandeleur, and light refreshments. Cost is a $5 suggested donation. Proceeds go to Cedar Moon Journal.

Frosty's Craft Fair is tomorrow

Frosty's Holiday Craft Fair will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Bayfield High School.

There will be a canned food drive for Pine River Shares, vendors, door prizes, a silent auction, food sales, and a fun zone for kids from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. A fun run will be held at noon, followed by Frosty's birthday celebration at 1 p.m.

All proceeds benefit La Plata County Youth Independent Performing Arts, which provides dance, drill team and winter guard activities for local youth.

Bazaar is next Saturday in Ignacio

An arts-and-crafts holiday bazaar for area artists, artisans, crafters and bakers will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Southern Ute Multi-Purpose Facility, 256 Ute Road, in Ignacio.

Booth spaces are 10 square feet, include one table and two chairs and cost $20.

The event will feature complimentary cookies and hot chocolate.

LPEA lunch to support Salvation Army

La Plata Electric Association will host its "Stuff the Kettle" green chili lunch to support the Salvation Army from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Durango headquarters, 45 Stewart St.

The lunch will include a variety of green chili stews - prepared by Bart's Deli with meats from Sunnyside Farms Market, tortillas, corn bread and a beverage for a suggested donation of at least $5 to the Salvation Army. Desserts will be available for extra donations.

The lunch will be held during an LPEA Board of Directors meeting. Directors will be available to speak with attendees during the lunch.

Church to observe Our Lady of Guadalupe

The Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, typically observed Dec. 12, will be celebrated during a service at 12:15 p.m. Dec. 17 at St. Peter-St. Rosa Catholic Church, 18851 Highway 151, in Arboles.

The event will feature a fiesta dinner, raffle, silent auction and activities.

People can purchase raffle tickets, $1 each or $5 for six, from a member of the Carmelitas.

FFA holding benefit dinner for Lee family

The Ignacio and Bayfield chapters of Future Farmers of America will have a benefit for the Lee family of Bayfield. The spaghetti dinner is from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8, at Pine Valley Four Square Church on 1328 CR 501. Dinner is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $25 for a family of four. A silent auction also will be held. Jeremiah Lee, a longtime police officer, died on Oct. 13, and he is survived by three children.

Santa Claus visiting Lewis True Value

Free pictures with Santa Claus will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 at Lewis True-Value Mercantile in Bayfield.

Destination Imagination holding workshop

Destination Imagination of Southwest Colorado (DI) will hold a Creativity Skills workshop on Saturday, Dec. 9. Participating teams and team managers are strongly encouraged to attend, as are any interested students and parents not yet on board.

DI is a program for students preK-12 that combines creativity, problem solving and teamwork with science, technology and the arts.
