Bayfield trustee holding public meeting
J.J. Sanders, a Bayfield town trustee, will have a public meeting from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, April 9 at the Pine River Library conference room. He invites all residents and business people to come with questions, comments, concerns, or any item of interest. He plans to hold these sessions monthly.
San Juan Basin Health holding open house
In order to help celebrate National Public Health Week, San Juan Basin Health Department staff are opening their doors from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 to help showcase all of the programs and services they provide in Archuleta and La Plata counties. They are excited to use this as an opportunity to meet the staff, receive more information and answer any questions you may have about San Juan Basin Health. "Public health's future is incredibly exciting and we as a department have a lot to celebrate," Director Liane Jollon said. "We wouldn't be who we are without our partners and look forward to our community joining us in the celebration."
San Juan Basin Health is located at 281 Sawyer Drive, Durango. Healthy appetizers and beverages will be provided.
Host families needed for exchange students
PAX is looking for Bayfield families interested in hosting a high school student from another country for the 2015-2016 school year. Backcountry Horsemen holding tack sale

Big game applications due Tuesday
Limited license hunting applications for Colorado Parks and Wildlife are due midnight Tuesday, April 7.
CPW staff recommends not waiting until the last minute, when servers start to slow down. All hunters need a hunter safety card. The application is online at wildlife.state.co.us
Preschool enrollment is April 24
Bayfield Early Education Programs is taking applications for the 2015-2016 preschool year on Friday, April 24. Children must be at least three years old and potty trained to attend. Families may choose full or half day classroom attendance, an after school program, and a Friday enrichment class. The school is in session for nine months and follows the Bayfield School District calendar.
BEEP offers 20 Colorado Preschool Program slots for children who are educationally at risk. Fifteen factors are considered, such as prematurity, abuse in the family, learning disabilities, qualifying for low or reduced lunch and more. This program is available to qualifying four year olds who are going on to Kindergarten the following year.
Besides the CPP program, parents with moderate or low income may qualify for a sliding scale, apply for scholarships, bartering, or CCCAP help to pay tuition.
BEEP urges families to apply as soon as possible to get the schedule they want and need. Slots fill quickly.
