Bayfield library kicks off Latino history series

The Pine River Public Library will kick off a series on Latino Americans at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, with live music, a catered dinner by Chavalo's and program discussion.

The library received a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and American Library Association to present the series, "Latino Americans: 500 Years of History." The Ignacio Community Library also received a grant.

On Dec. 2 at 6 p.m., the Bayfield library will continue its events potluck for the whole family.

The library will have four screenings of the documentary, "Latino Americans - the 500 Year Legacy that Shaped a Nation." The first two will be on Jan. 8 and Jan. 22, both at 7:30 p.m.

Habitat annual wine tasting is Nov. 6

The 17th annual Wine Tasting and Silent Auction fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity in La Plata County will be Friday, Nov. 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Doubletree Hotel ballroom in Durango. There will be lots of wine, appetizers, and live music by The Stereo-Types.

Tickets are $45 per person and are available at the First National Bank of Durango, The Wine Merchant, Maria's Bookshop, the Habitat ReStore in Bodo Industrial Park, or at habitatlaplata.org. For more information call 382-2215.

Heartsafe offering CPR class

Heart Safe LaPlata, a local non-profit organization, will host an adult CPR/AED class from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5. 

A CPR Pro class will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 12

Grange holding harvest supper

Mt. Allison Grange members are hosting their annual harvest supper from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for children. Kids under 6 eat free. Like usual, you will not go away hungry. The menu this year includes ham, roast beef, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, hot rolls, tossed salad, homemade pies, coffee, and punch.

Commissioner holding Bayfield office hours

Commissioner Julie Westendorff will hold office hours at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov.5 at the Pine River Community Library in Bayfield. She welcomes members of the community to meet with her to discuss issues of interest or concern.
