An introduction to mindfulness and the health care program Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Smiley Building, 1309 East Third Ave.
Originally created as a treatment for recurrent depression, and shown through extensive research to be as effective as anti-depressant medication in reducing the risk of relapse, MBCT is a highly-effective when coping with stress, low mood and mental chatter that can interrupt a sense of well-being.
Participants will learn why and how mindfulness practice can support them to cultivate better health, focused attention and peace of mind.
The session is free, open to the public and led by Janet Curry, a mental health counselor and certified mindfulness-based stress-reduction provider.

The new website includes information on the Intermediary Relending Program, the New Pioneers Microloan Program, the Rural Business Development Grant and more.
FSWCF, a nonprofit, promotes economic development in distressed communities by helping to increase wages, encourage the development of critical community infrastructure, and provide educational opportunities and financial literacy knowledge for identified populations. It provides low-cost business and agricultural lending to create sustainable employment and jumpstart local economies.

The prices for travel vaccines and private pay vaccines at San Juan Basin Public Health's Immunization Clinic were both increased and decreased based on the manufacture prices and administration fees.
The health department still offers travel consultations, all travel immunizations and low or no cost vaccines through the Vaccines for Children Program and the Section 317 Grants Program for adult vaccines.
The clinic is federally funded to provide vaccinations to qualified children regardless of ability to pay, and adults may also be eligible for low cost vaccines if they are underinsured or uninsured.

Durango Nature Studies will offer its Spring Break Camp for students 7 to 10 years old from March 26 to March 30.
The schedule includes treks to the Aztec Ruins, the Southern Ute Cultural Center and other fun excursions. Students can enroll for a day or two or the entire week. The camp is limited to 13 spots each day.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife has opened applications for limited 2018 big-game, sheep and mountain goat hunting licenses. CPW encourages all hunters to apply early for this year's license draw. Paper applications are no longer accepted.
Additionally, payment in full is no longer required at the time of application.
Hunters will be responsible for their application fees and a $10 habitat stamp when applying. The cost of any licenses will not be charged until a hunter is selected in the draw.
