Cemetery district to hold annual meeting

The Ignacio, Allison, Oxford Cemetery District will hold its annual meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at the Style Shoppe at 380 Goddard Ave. in Ignacio.

The public is invited. Voters on Tuesday rejected a request by the cemetery board to increase the mill levy for operational expenses.

CSU extension offering baking class

Are you a transplant to the area who thinks you have lost your ability to cook? The quality of your baked goods and candy are embarrassing?

Relax, it is not the cook, it is the altitude. Good news - it is treatable. Understanding the few changes and why will save frustration, groceries and reputation. Wendy Rice, Colorado State University Extension agent for family and consumer science, will explain it all in a high-altitude baking class at Pine River Library.

The class is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15. The class will teach successful techniques for making edible baked goods, candy, bread machine recipes, and rice and beans.

Creating safe canned and dehydrated foods also will be covered. For more information, contact the library at 884-2222, ext. 510.

Bayfield Chamber hosting holiday party

With the holiday season quickly approaching, the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce is saying "thank you" to all of members with a holiday party.

"We have some exciting things planned for 2019, so if you or any of your friends are interested in learning more about the Bayfield Chamber of Commerce, please make sure join us," chamber board members said.

There will not be a meeting but a casual meet and mingle with food and beverages from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Billy Goat Saloon. Cash bar is available.

Library hosting FLC musical theater

Fort Lewis College student performers will present an evening of entertainment from the musical stage on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Pine River Library.

A free coffee and dessert reception will be held at 6:30 p.m. and a free performance at 7 p.m. "A Rainbow of Voices" celebrates musical theater and opera. From the fire escapes of New York City to the mountains of Appalachia to the sock hops of 1960s Baltimore, these scenes showcase music's inspirational role in social change. The performance features music from West Side Story, In the Heights, Hairspray, and other shows.

Glass-etching class coming to Ignacio

Ignacio Community Library will host a class on glass etching at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Never lose your glass baking dish at your friend's or family member's house again! This workshop will use the art of glass etching with etching cream. Participants should bring a glass dish and the library will provide etching materials. No children please; this workshop utilizes pen knives and etching cream.
