The Pine River Times welcomes readers to an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 24 at the newspaper's new office at 823 CR 501. The entrance is on the north side of Bayfield Realty, across the street from Bayfield High School.
Refreshments will be provided, along with giveaways and the chance to win door prizes.
The Bayfield Chamber of Commerce will conduct a ribbon cutting, as well.

Two classes about food fermentation will be offered at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive:
Wendy Rice from the La Plata County Extension Office will lead a class about how to make pickles and fermented-vegetable mixes from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 29."Sourdough basics" will be offered from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 6. A workshop about how to write effective resumes and cover letters will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. Aug. 23 at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.
Participants will learn about how to write logical, useful resumes, words and phrases to avoid, the difference between resumes and cover letters, how to convey a concise message in a cover letter, planning techniques and effective ways to email resumes and cover letters.
Janet Arrowood, author of "Plain Language, Please: How to Write for Results," will lead the class.
The class is free and open to all.

A solar-eclipse viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive.
Solar glasses will be provided and participants will be able to watch the eclipse from the library. Those who attend can also watch the eclipse via live stream from NASA.
Moon pies will be served as a snack.

A "trauma conscious" yoga class for veterans and their families will be offered from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays, starting Aug. 30, at Durango Elks Lodge, 901 East Second Ave.
An open house will be held Aug. 30 to start the series.
Matthew Sommerville of Connected Warriors, an organization that offers yoga classes for soldiers, will lead the class, which will focus on managing the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder through yoga practices, such as breath regulation, movement, body awareness, mindfulness, meditation, etc.
The class is free to veterans and family, and open to all.
