Calvary Presbyterian to host Bethlehem night

A free, interactive Christmas family event called A Night in Bethlehem will be hosted from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, at Calvary Presbyterian Church in downtown Bayfield. Families will step back in time to the biblical time in Bethlehem, exploring the love of Jesus in an interactive marketplace setting. Kids and adults will be immersed in an experience where they interact with shopkeepers and discover surprising details about the birth of Jesus.

Guests will enjoy trips to the Bethlehem Bakery, Fisherman's Pier, Spice Shoppe, Toy Shoppe, Census Taker's Office/Scribe, Wool Spinners, Leather or Painting Shoppe, Mosaics Shoppe, Sweet Shoppe, as well as seeing the animals at the nativity scene. The event is free, and all are welcome. The church is on the corner of Mill and Church streets.

Grange to host free breakfast, food drive

Mt. Allison Grange will host a free community breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, and will include eggs, sausage, pancakes, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and juice and coffee. Bring a non-perishable food item for a community food distribution. Everyone is invited.

Navajo State Park to hold open house

Navajo State Park will hold a holiday open house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6. The park is at the Colorado end of Navajo Reservoir.

The park visitors' center will be open for refreshments throughout the day. In addition, bookstore items discounted.

Visitors can learn about the numerous improvement projects recently completed at the park. Projects include improvements to the boat ramp; expansion of the boat dry-storage area; a new intersection to help relieve traffic congestion; a new invasive species check station, and improvements to the water and sewer systems.

Navajo State Park is open year-round. During winter, one cabin and 47 camping spots are available. There's also a shoreline hiking trail that's popular with bird watchers.

Navajo Reservoir contains a total of 15,000 acres, with 3,000 acres on the Colorado side.

Frosty's Holiday Craft Fair set for Dec. 12

The La Plata County Independent Youth Performing Arts will hold its annual Frosty's Holiday Craft Fair & Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, at the Bayfield High School main gymnasium. This free annual fundraiser features vendors, door prizes, a silent auction and these events:

10:30 a.m.: Frosty's art display, a tweenager (ages 10-14) team scavenger hunt.

Noon: Ugly sweater contest.

1 p.m.: Frosty's birthday celebration with special guests Elsa and Anna.

New this year is Frosty's Fun Zone in the BHS auxilary gym for kids ages 3-9 (a donation of $5 per kid is suggested).

The craft fair is a fundraiser for LPCIYPA winterguard program. Country Roads 4H Club will be the main food vendor to help raise money for their 4H programs.

Pilates studio holding open house

Kamoska Pilates Studio will hold an open house and holiday collection from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.

Renata Clance will demonstrate a variety of stretching techniques, including Spirals, at 10:30 a.m. Upper extremity stretching will be held at 11:10 a.m.

At 11:40, Fran Sutherlin, a local nutritionist and dietitian, will teach "Breaking up with Sugar." At 12:30 p.m., Dr. Annette Trick of Bayfield will give an overview of foundation training, an improvement program to help manage pain.

Clance will teach Spirals II at 1:15, lower extremity stretching at 2 p.m., and posture diagnostics at 2:35. Participants are welcome to join for one class or stay all day. Donations will be accepted for local charities. For more information, call Clance at 799-1573 or visit www.kamoskapilates.com.
