The Bayfield High School volleyball team will serve an enchilada dinner from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 24 at the Bayfield Lions Club. The cost is $8 for adults, $5 for kids, including rice and beans. Supporters are welcome to eat at the club or pick up a to-go order.
Want to learn how to save the tastes of summer to enjoy throughout the year? "Canning Basics for Safe Preserving" will be taught from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Pine River Library.
Wendy Rice from the La Plata County CSU Extension Office will explain the "how and why" of preserving food at home. The workshop focuses on current recommendations for high altitude canning equipment, canning methods and what to look for for success. Whether you're a canning beginner or just in need of a refresher, this course will provide you with the confidence to properly "put up" this summer's bounty.

The La Plata County Board of County Commissioners will hold a community meeting from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28 in the Board Room of the County Administration Building, 1101 E. 2nd Ave. to discuss natural gas pipeline safety and the related regulatory roles of state and local entities.
Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission staff will give a presentation describing the factors that led to the April incident in Firestone when an abandoned gas line triggered a home explosion. The COGCC will also discuss what the agency has done in response to prevent future incidents and protect public safety.
COGCC and La Plata County staff will also explain the larger, multi-jurisdictional regulatory context regarding natural gas pipelines and answer questions from the community regarding pipeline-related public safety.

OzFest, a music festival to benefit Ozzie Goldman, will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at Joe Stephenson Park. Live music will be performed by Beau Smith, Sunny and the Whiskey Machine, Red Eyed Djinn and Midnight Backhand. Admission is free. All proceeds from the silent auction, food sales, kids' activities and beer tent will benefit 6-year-old Ozzie, who has cancer.
"The Basics of Computers" will be taught at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 26 at Ignacio Community Library. Participants will learn the basics of using a computer and practice using a mouse. No computer experience is required. For more information, call 563-9287.
The Vallecito Service League is holding its 34th annual arts and crafts fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on July 1 and 2 in the meadow below Vallecito Dam.
A $3 parking fee includes a one-day lake parking pass. Admission is free, with more than 40 art vendors, and barbecue available for purchase.
"It's the best little fair by a dam site!" event organizers say.
