Night to Shine event planned in Durango

Night to Shine is hosted by more than 350 churches in 50 states and 11 countries for people with special needs. An event is planned Friday in Durango.

Durango’s First Baptist Church and Treasure Ministry will host a Night to Shine event for people with special needs on Friday.

Night to Shine events are sponsored by the Tim Tebow Foundation.

“We are excited to partner with Treasure Ministry to bring Night to Shine to Durango,” said Jeff Dobesh, pastor of First Baptist. “We want the guests and their families to know that they are loved, valued, welcomed and supported at First Baptist Durango.”

The event, 6-9 p.m. at the La Plata Country Fairgrounds, 2500 Main Ave., is a prom-like event that includes dinner and dancing. Parents, caregivers and siblings are invited to the event.

Treasure Ministry, a local ministry for children and adults with special needs and their families, has offered similar dances in the past, and this year applied for and was awaded a grant from the Tim Tebow Foundation.

More than 200 volunteers are involved in the event.
