Nighthorse is Lake to Nowhere

Forty-six years after Congress authorized the Animas-La Plata Water Project, 14 years after Congress authorized Ridges Basin Dam, seven years after the dam was completed and three years since the dam was filled and the recreational master plan was accepted, it seems we now have a Lake to Nowhere. Kathleen Ozga of the Bureau of Reclamation updated the community June 19, regarding recreational uses of Lake Nighthorse. She indicated years may be needed to further address a broad range of issues concerning water quality, environmental protection and protection of cultural resources. Covered with 123,541 acre-feet of water, it seems those issues are already water under the bridge.
