No. 16 Mavericks make quick work of ’Hawks

Colorado Mesa lived up to its No. 16 national ranking with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-11, 25-19) win over Fort Lewis College on Tuesday in Grand Junction.

The Mavericks hit .302 as a team and held the Skyhawks to a .010 hitting percentage.

Colorado Mesa (16-3, 10-1 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) had nine blocks as a team and dug 55 balls.

Melissa Hess led the Mavericks with 13 kills, while Erin Perez added 10.

Ashley Wells paced the FLC (5-14, 2-9 RMAC) attack with nine kills and tied with libero Ally Dell’Amico for the team lead with seven digs.

Wells also led the team with five blocks.

FLC made 22 attack errors and five service errors in the match.

The Skyhawks, losers of four in a row, will play their next three at home, starting with Adams State at 7 p.m. Friday in Whalen Gymnasium.
