No. 16 Skyhawks done in once more in overtime

UC-Colorado Springs hands FLC its second consecutive RMAC defeat

Overtime has not been kind this week to the Fort Lewis College men’s soccer team.

James Roberts scored his second goal of the game in the 99th minute, handing UC-Colorado Springs a 3-2 overtime victory over the No. 16 Skyhawks on Friday in Colorado Springs.

Roberts put UCCS (2-1-2, 1-0-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) up 2-1 in the 54th minute on a shot past FLC goalkeeper Ryan Pakieser.

The Skyhawks would respond, however. Zac Lawrence beat UCCS goalkeeper Brandon Costa under the crossbar in the 87th minute to force overtime.

J.R. Calhoun opened the scoring Friday, scoring off a long throw in into the penalty area to give the Mountain Lions a 1-0 lead in the 37th minute.

FLC (4-2-1, 1-2-0 RMAC) responded when Tamino Kroeger scored unassisted in the 51st minute to square the game at 1.

The game marked the return of center back Johannes Sander for FLC after he missed two games with an injury. Sander is the Skyhawks’ captain.

It was the second such loss for the Skyhawks this week, as FLC fell to Adams State in a 1-0 defeat in double overtime Wednesday at Dirks Field.

FLC will play Regis at 1 p.m. Sunday in Denver.
