No easy solutions to Lightner Creek case

If Ed Morlan was still alive, I am sure he would have something to say about John Hunt’s internet question in your letters section (Herald, March 24).

Along with many other people, I worked with Ed to help bring high-speed internet connectivity to Southwest Colorado; Ed led those regional efforts since the early 1990s.

We worked on technical issues, right-of-way issues, business case issues, equipment and facilities issues all across the five counties and two sovereign tribes in Region 9. From the statewide multiuse network project to the across-the-street projects that connected city and county offices, to our attempts to piggy-back on the Colorado DOT statewide fiber optical network, Ed never stopped saying that we should all have access to high-speed internet services.

The difficulty of providing universal connectivity is reflected in the fact that some 25 years after we started, the work is still not finished around here.

There may be some relatively expensive solutions to Hunt’s problem but there are probably no easy, affordable solutions.

In any event, I know that Ed cared.
