No injuries reported after tour bus goes off Lizard Head Pass

Bus on pass while it was closed for avalanche work

All passengers aboard a tour bus that slid off Lizard Head Pass while on its way to Telluride on Saturday are reported safe with no injuries, the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office said.

According to posts made to the San Miguel Sheriff’s Office Twitter account, there were about 45 passengers on the Telluride-bound bus, most of whom were elderly. The Sheriff’s Office had not respond to calls as of 2 p.m. Sunday.

Around noon Sunday, the Sheriff’s Office posted that “all occupants safe and being transported to Telluride. No injuries.”

According to a previous report, the passengers were stranded for several hours after the tour bus slid off Colorado Highway 145 atop Lizard Head Pass.

While the bus was using chains, the pass was closed at the time for avalanche control, and it’s still unclear Sunday the particulars of the bus’ route, and how it was on the pass.

Passengers were transported to Telluride by a shuttle as well as emergency responders.
