No Kings rallies funded by the people

In response to the letter titled, “Who funded the No Kings rallies” (Herald, April 15), the answer, in short: The people did.

As a volunteer member of Indivisible Durango, organizer of the No Kings rallies in Durango, I accept the compliment that the event “was well organized and drew millions of people.” Thank you.

In fact, the most recent No Kings event consisted of 3,400 rallies across the world, engaging well over 8 million people, with several thousand here in Durango. Indivisible Durango, as one of many Indivisible chapters across the country, was offered free educational resources through National Indivisible, the ACLU, and No Kings organizers to conduct safe, peaceful rallies. We are united with the message of democracy for all.

Community members’ donations pay for permits to reserve the park and to close the street for the march, for porta-potties, law enforcement safety officers and technicians required by the city, and more. Thank you to all the volunteers as well as the locals who made this event possible with creativity and high spirits.
