Durango’s high Wednesday reached 86 degrees, falling 2 degrees short of the record for the date set in 2000.
Wednesday was the hottest day of the year to date, according to the National Weather Service. The previous high was 80 degrees on May 17.
The warm temperatures are causing strong flows in the Animas River. The flow reached 4,300 cubic feet per second at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. That was a spike from 3,650 cfs only a day earlier. It’s also the highest flow on the river this early in the year since 2011, according to U.S. Geological Survey data.
