In response to the letter “Stop giving the homeless attention,” from Cory Munch (Letters, Herald, Aug. 2), I say stop looking for simple (and in this case heartless and ignorant) solutions to complex problems. Homelessness will not be eliminated by ignoring the homeless. I know Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity would agree with Munch and say “Yeah, it’s simple, just quit begging and get to work,” but like many things in life, it’s just not that simple. People rarely choose to be homeless. People rarely choose to be mentally ill. People rarely choose the bad circumstances that befall good people sometimes, leaving them homeless. I hope for his sake, Munch continues to live his apparently charmed life and never has to confront any of the things that those “lazy, drug-addicted” people have, in his view, chosen. Best of luck to you Munch, he’s going to need it.
