Noel Night: Friday night’s the night to start getting psyched for the holidays

Friday night’s the night to start getting psyched for the holidays

Downtown Durango will be overflowing with holiday spirit Friday night for the annual Noel Night celebration. If you’re not the world’s biggest fan of Christmas carols or the old fat guy in red, fear not, for there will be plenty of offerings away from the traditional.

The women of Mataholla Moon hitting multiple venues

Not thrilled with the whole business of decking the halls? Check out a little something different for Noel Night with belly dancing. Members of the Mataholla Moon Belly Dance troupe will be performing at various locations Friday night.

Made up of dancers Tara Kiene, Tanya Lawyer, Lillian Orig, Marty Ragle, Rubi Starr Randazzo and Lisa Smith, the troupe has been around since about 2003 and has only grown through the years. In fact, the name “Mataholla” is a made-up word that incorporates the names of the troupe’s founding members.

The dancers are scheduled to perform at 5 p.m. at the Main Mall, 6 p.m. at Artesanos and 7 p.m. at Cream Bean Berry.

In the mood to support local artists? Like hot chocolate?

If you’ve got holiday shopping on your mind and want to support your local economy, head over to Studio & and kick it into high gear.

The studio will be featuring works from artists Crystal Hartman, Miki Harder, Jonah Amadeus, Andrew Jagniecki and the five member artists of the studio: Elizabeth Kinahan, Minna Jain, Maureen May, Shay Lopez and Tim Kapustka.

And while you’re supporting local artists, Animas Chocolate Co. is teaming up with the studio to provide for your every chocolate need, offering free hot chocolate to ward off the hypothermia you may be starting to develop after walking all over town.

Keep an eye out for Animas Chocolate’s tent set up in Studio &’s parking lot.

Deck your body, not your halls at Sideshow Emporium

If you’re headed down downtown and are on the hunt for something snazzy to deck yourself with, pop into Sideshow Emporium at 501B Main Ave. for its grand opening at its new location in Durango.

The store offers an eclectic mix of vintage and modern clothing, and for Noel Night, will be featuring live music by Papa Otis and the Greasy Motors from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The four-piece band will be hitting all kinds of music for all kinds of musical types, so head on over to catch the show.

Everyone’s a little Irish with Patrick Crossing

Cold weather have you in the mood for a little Irish music? You’ll have two chances to check out Patrick Crossing on Friday night: 5 p.m. at Urban Market Home, 865 Main Ave., and 7 p.m. at Scenic Aperture, 708 Main Ave.

Patrick Crossing performs traditional Irish music and more modern Celtic songs. They even throw their own songs into the mix. This is the fourth Noel Night that Patrick Crossing will play, so these guys know what they’re doing.

Band members are Shiela Lane on whistles and vocals; CJ Alderton on guitar and vocals; Elizabeth Davis plays violin; Erick Morningstar is on bodhran; and Molly Morningstar on vocals. James Lane does sound engineering.
