The Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado recently announced the 10 local nonprofits that will receive proceeds from this year’s community concerts music series at the Rochester Hotel’s Secret Garden.
The fourth annual music series – which provides funding for community nonprofits and promotes local music – will feature musical talent paired with a nonprofit beneficiary on Wednesdays from June 27 to Aug. 29 in the Secret Garden the Rochester Hotel, 726 East Second Ave. A cash bar and food for sale will be offered at each event.
The 2018 nonprofits selected include: Durango Arts Center, La Plata Youth Services, Durango Adult Education Center, Mountain Studies Institute, Durango Education Foundation, iAM Music, Women’s Resource Center, Durango Nature Studies, Sexual Assault Services Organization and the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado.
More than 20 nonprofits applied, and a selection committee of event and corporate sponsors narrowed the final list to 10 organizations.
“This year, the selected nonprofits are participating in a 12-month development and fundraising program to strengthen each nonprofit’s long term sustainability,” Briggen Wrinkle, Community Foundation executive director, said in a news release. “The Secret Garden is the perfect venue to relax and enjoy great music while supporting 10 local nonprofits. This year, we will have a concert on July 4, giving people the opportunity to add great entertainment and nonprofit support to their busy holiday celebrations.”
Cost for each concert is a $10 donation for this year’s selected nonprofits. Ten-punch passes for the 2018 Community Concerts in the Secret Garden are available for $90 at Maria’s Bookshop. Once purchased, passes may be used 10 times by one individual, once by 10 individuals or anything in between. Cash donations are also accepted at the door.
At the end of the series, proceeds will be pooled and distributed equally to the 10 organizations, which will help fund a $4,000 grant to participate in the Network for Good Jumpstart program. Network for Good – a national company that supports nonprofit fundraising – provides its Jumpstart program as a yearlong professional development opportunity, which includes one-on-one coaching and an online donor-management software system. A portion of funds from the concert series will also go to the Community Foundation serving Southwest Colorado to support a sustainable nonprofit sector.
