North City Market remodel

North City Market is next in line for an update – the Kroger chain’s South City Market finished its overhaul late last year – and it’s bringing high-end coffee to the north side of town.

The refurbished 39,000-square-foot retail store, which will be finished in late August, will sport a Starbucks shop and sitting area for customers to buy coffee by the cup or the pound.

It will also add a full-service meat and seafood department, important for a full-service grocery store, and an in-store sushi chef to fulfill your requests. Best of all, North City Market will expand its offerings of organic produce and natural products.

“To be honest, we’re an upscale store, but we’re not in an upscale building,” said store manager Steve Collins. “That’s what the update is for.”

As for now, the floors are torn up and cases like those for orange juice may not be in their regular place on any given day. (One recent shopping expedition found customers asking each other, “Have you seen the butter?”) But the momentary pain will pay off this summer.
