Not all ‘real’ people live in trailer parks

Regarding the story headlined “Rumors abuzz, residents concerned” (Herald, Nov. 1) related to the proposed sale of the Island Cove mobile home park, I found the comments of Cody Reinheimer to be as comical as they were preposterous. Regarding his comment, “A town can lose its character when the workforce leaves,” I assume he means the one that lives in affordable housing or mobile home parks. So, is one to believe from his remarks that the only residents who comprise the “work force” in Durango, live in affordable housing or mobile home parks?

Furthermore, and even more ludicrous, is his remark that “real people make for a fun town.” So, is one to assume from his remark that the people who do not live in a mobile home park or affordable housing are not “real people” in this community nor are they “fun people”? Given the fact that Reinheimer is employed in a marketing job for the Durango Farmers Market, which is a great venue in this community, I wonder how he feels about all the “non real” and “non fun” people, meaning those of us that do not live in a mobile home park or affordable housing and evidentially are not a part of the local “workforce” but in fact support the Durango Farmers Market, his place of employment, every summer weekend?

Unfortunately, it is this type of unsophisticated view of the world that can create an unhealthy division within the mixed demographics of our communities, and candidly, I am surprised the Herald even elected to print his remarks.
