Not impressed with police after robbery

My partner and I recently experienced the misfortune of having our house robbed – while we slept peacefully in our bed.

I’m writing here to touch on the lack of support we received from the Durango Police Department upon filing a police report.

First, it took over twenty minutes for the message to be relayed from dispatch to an officer, at which point an officer called us to gather an inventory and estimated values of the things that were stolen from us.

Here is the problem: an officer called us; he did not come to our house. I’m not writing here to voice an exhaustive list of how the situation could have been handled better. I am noting the single issue that as my partner and I sat violated in our freshly robbed living room, no one took the time to come to our door and talk face to face about the situation.

We did not feel protected in an already intrusive situation, nor did we feel that a service was provided. Our helplessness was quickly compounded.

When your force emblazons “Serve and Protect” on the sides of your squad cars, please just do it.
