Oct. 15, 7 p.m.: Books and Brews: A nontraditional book club and discussion about books people love, hate or can’t live without at Animas Brewing Co., 1560 East Second Ave.

Oct. 16, 9 a.m.: Southwest Center for Independence and the Durango Public Library will host a Low Vision Expo. Explore new technology to help keep your independence and quality of life. The library staff will be demonstrating their Low Vision Internet Computer.

Oct. 17, 4 p.m.: Tween Time: Fall Food Favorites. Make classic fall treats, including popcorn balls, caramel apples, tea and hot cider (ages 11 to 17).

Oct. 18, 6 p.m.: Indie Lens Pop-Up: “Dawnland.” The movie tells the story of the first government-sanctioned truth and reconciliation commission in the U.S. and investigates the devastating impact of Maine’s child-welfare practices on Native American communities.

Oct. 19, 3:30 p.m.: STEAM Lab: Marble Roller Coasters. Design a theme park-worthy coaster and test your track with speedy marbles (ages 5-12).

Oct 20., 9 a.m.: Genealogy Drop-In Workshop. Hosted by Southwest Colorado Genealogical Society, along with the Durango Public Library.

Oct. 23, 6 p.m.: Durango Diaries: Media Insight – How We Cover Suicide. In September and October, The Durango Herald is publishing a series of solutions-oriented stories about youth suicide in La Plata County. Herald staff will discuss how they did the project. Season Two of the Durango Diaries is presented by the Herald.

Oct. 24, 4 p.m.: Tween Time: Trivia! Drop in for activities just for tweens and teens (ages 11 to 17). Prizes for first and second place.

Oct. 25, 4 p.m.: Halloween Family Story Time. Stories, songs, rhymes and other fun activities for Halloween. Wear a costume. Story Time lasts approximately 30 minutes with candy-free trick-or-treating throughout the library afterward.

Oct. 1, 4 p.m.: Anime Club: Meets the first Monday of every month to have an anime showing with a cultural activity to follow. Because of the content of the shows, participants must be middle school or older.

Oct. 8, 11:30 a.m.: Mystery Book Club: Join us the second Monday of every month for lunch and discussion of a mystery. This month’s book is “Deceptive Clarity” by Aaron Elkins.

Oct. 11, 7 p.m.: Night Sky Party: Local teacher Anil Chopra will help us view the moon, planets and stars in the October sky. Bring binoculars or a telescope if available. Free event for all ages. Meet at the library or at Shoshone Park.

Oct. 13, 10 a.m.: No Carve Pumpkin Decorating: Transform a pumpkin into a “boo-tiful” Halloween decoration. Paint, glitter and Mod Podge images to your pumpkin. Bring your own pumpkin; the rest will be supplied.

Oct. 18, 4 p.m.: Booklings: “Mister Max” by Cynthia Voigt. The story will appeal to fans of fantasy, adventure, mystery and humor. New book club for sixth- to eighth-graders. The club meets the first and third Thursday of each month.

Oct. 19, 9:30 a.m.: Walk and Talk About Books: Take a stroll with us as we chat about your favorite (or not so favorite) books. Meet every third Friday at the Dome Trailhead on Tribal Campus to walk back to the library. You may also meet us at the library at 9:15 a.m. to carpool to the trailhead. Weather-dependent.

Oct. 19, 2 p.m.: Slice and a Show: Join us for a piece of pie from the Patio and a good afternoon movie, “Hearts Beat Loud.”

Oct. 23, 5:30 p.m.: Family Reading Circles: A six-week program every Tuesday, Oct. 23 to Nov. 27. Begin each night with dinner, and after, parents can learn and practice ways to increase literacy in their home. Storytime, crafts and games for children. Oct. 10, 7 p.m.: Solar Barn Raising Informational Meeting: Solar Barn Raising is a new Southwest Colorado-based nonprofit whose mission is to train and help do-it-yourself-capable homeowners install their own solar power system. This meeting is for everyone who is interested in working with the group to install their own solar power system at substantial savings.

Oct. 12, 5:30 p.m.: Community Art Show Reception: Meet the artists participating in the annual Community Art show and enjoy refreshments.

Oct. 13, 7 p.m.: Blackout Poetry at the Billy Goat Saloon (39848 U.S. Highway 160 in Bayfield). A special event outside the library. Blackout poetry encourages readers to create poems blacking out words from ordinary texts. Stop by and use someone else’s words to make your own poem.

Oct. 15, 7 p.m.: Classic Movie Monday: “Cast Away” (2002).

Oct. 16, 1 p.m.: Tuesday Crafternoons: It’s a crafting potluck. Bring an activity and supplies to share and join in communal crafting.

Oct. 23, 6 p.m.: Mark Kroos guitar concert: An all-ages concert with guitarist Mark Kroos, who plays two guitar necks at the same time.

Oct. 25 and 26, 3:30 p.m.: Dia de los Muertos Papier-Mache Skeleton Building Workshop: Hosted by Durango Arts Center. Build puppet skeletons from sticks, wire and found objects on the first day and then decorate the skeletons the second day. These workshops will be part of the Day of the Dead educational community events leading up to the first Festival de los Muertos in Durango. Skeletons from the workshop will be displayed in the Durango Arts Center entryway for two weeks leading up to, during and after the festival.

Oct. 26, 12:30 p.m.: Senior Center Outreach: Library staff reach out to the seniors in the community and bring books, audio books and DVDs to the Bayfield Senior Center. All items are available for checkout.

Oct. 27, 2 p.m.: Patrons’ Picks Matinee Movie: An afternoon screening of films chosen by patrons, with free popcorn. In October, we are showing the 1993 classic “Jurassic Park.”

Oct. 29, 7 p.m.: Classic Movie Monday: “Suspicion” (1941).
