Fire officials are investigating what could have caused a mobile home to burn Friday night in Durango, a blaze that left at least three people displaced and killed four cats, fire officials said.
The fire started around 9:23 p.m. and “severely damaged” the mobile home in the 2400 block of Arroyo Drive, said Durango Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Rod Allen. No injuries were immediately reported.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, as is the amount of damage done to the mobile home and whether there are any suspicious circumstances, Allen said Saturday morning.
Bill Reynolds, who identified himself as a landlord Friday night, said the mobile home is likely a total loss.
Twenty-seven fire personnel operating three engines, one ladder and three medic units were able to contain the fire, which had spread to nearby trees, by 9:47 p.m., Allen said. Crews stayed on scene for about three hours, he said.
The Red Cross responded last night and made accommodations for Stacy Cobb and her children, a 16-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy, who were displaced by the fire, Allen said.
Cobb said her daughter walked into her bedroom and yelled, “Mom, mom, there’s a fire in my room.”
The fire appeared to have started in the closet of the room, Cobb said Friday night.
The family has lived in the home since February.
