Oil rig crash closes Colorado Highway 151 near Allison

Emergency crews work to clear semi-trailer with 87,000-pound load
Colorado Highway 151 was closed from about 5 to 6 p.m. east of Allison as crews upright a semi-trailer hauling an oil rig.

Colorado Highway 151 was closed Wednesday evening as emergency crews attempt to upright a semi-trailer carrying an 87,000-pound oil rig that went off the road.

Colorado State Patrol Capt. Adrian Driscoll said the highway at mile post 13, just east of Allison in Archuleta County, should be closed until at least 6 p.m.

Driscoll said the semi went off the road around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The semi was not blocking traffic; the highway was closed, however, so crews could upright the vehicle.

The vehicle with the oil rig weighs about 87,000 pounds, making extraction difficult, he said.

Driscoll said it was a single-vehicle crash, and the driver suffered minor injuries. He was unsure which company the driver works for and did not immediately know the cause of the crash.
