Oklahoma girl breaks record for selling most Girl Scout cookies

Katie Francis, 11, who broke the record for selling the most Girl Scout cookies, beating the decades-long record.

WASHINGTON – A woman who has held a Girl Scout cookie sales record for decades says she has no problem giving up her cookie crown to an Oklahoma girl who broke her record.

Elizabeth Brinton set the one year sales record of 18,000 boxes as a teenager living in Falls Church, Va., in the 1980s. She sold outside Metro stations in the Washington area and in 1986 even sold cookies to President Ronald Reagan. Now a mother of two living in Alabama, Brinton says the new cookie queen, Katie Francis of Oklahoma City – who sold 18,107 boxes – called her to ask for advice.

Brinton, selling 100,000 boxes over her Girl Scout career, told Katie it would be physically demanding work. But Brinton also helped Katie’s sales, buying four boxes of Thin Mints from the sixth-grader.
