There are strong feelings on both sides of this abortion issue, and so be it. We all come to the table with different backgrounds and experiences that influence and anchor these beliefs.
I do have a concern about the term “pro-life.” It seems the term “pro-birth” would be a more accurate description. Wouldn’t we agree that life is far more than taking your first breath?
To have life, you have to be fed, sheltered, kept from harm’s way and nurtured (most commonly called loved). Why isn’t this mentioned out loud as part of what pro-life really means?
Just last week, I heard the governor of Alabama respond to the question, “What about women who are not capable mentally, emotionally or financially to start raising an unwanted child?”
Her answer was that the cost and other factors shouldn’t matter. If we assign by law that pregnancies will not be aborted, and thus no choice, then the leaders and believers of this law need to start addressing the way for solutions after that first breath.
We can’t have it both ways!
