On Wednesday, Durango Diaries to host comedians telling their stories

Wes Stein, founder of Comedy Showcase Durango and host of Next Best Comic of the Four Corners. He has produced shows with popular headliner comics, hosted and emceed events around the country and is featured on the album “Durango Is Funny,” which is available on iTunes and Spotify.Kate McLachlan, a comedian based in Durango and winner of 2018’s Next Best Comic of the Four Corners and loser of Comedian’s Power Hour, which is a drinking competition, so it’s not that big of a deal. She is a student and bartender, which makes her very unique in Durango.Ryan McCardell, host of Laugh Therapy at the Irish Embassy Pub. Laugh Therapy was created in an effort to provide a therapeutic outlet for both performers and audience members to cope with the stress of life. McCardell also twice competed in the regional Next Best Comic of the Four Corners.This is the first session of Season 5 of Durango Diaries. The season will continue through May at 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the Durango library. Upcoming event topics are:

Feb. 5: Sex education. A sexologist and sex columnist, a Fort Lewis College public health student who manages the @hornythesexbot Instagram account and a public health employee will share some of the lighter and more serious questions they encounter about sex.

Feb. 19: Growing a business. Local business owners who have grown their startups from small, scrappy companies to major organizations will share how they accomplished their dreams.

March 4: Alternative living. People who have lived off the grid, in yurts, tepees and tiny homes will share stories of why they opted to live in nontraditional ways.

March 18: Self-care. A popular buzzword, self-care is more than getting a massage, it’s taking care of your mind, body and soul. Three local self-care professionals will share their stories about how they discovered their paths.

April 1: Urban legends. From settlers hiding gold to ghosts haunting the town’s underground tunnels, Durango is full of urban legends, some of which are based on fact. For April Fool’s Day, three storytellers share some of the tall tales about the place we call home.

April 22: Earth Day. The world just recorded its second-hottest year on record. Storms appear to be stronger and more erratic than ever. But what can residents in rural Southwest Colorado do to make a difference? Three speakers share their stories of environmental activism.

May 6: Inventors. Coming up with an idea is just half the battle; manufacturing and producing your idea from start to finish is what separates the dreamers from inventors. Three local inventors will share their journeys from idea to item.
