I am compelled to comment on the abject irony of the reporting about the punk vandal inscribing swastikas during the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of D-Day and Operation Overlord (“
Memories of the incalculable sacrifices endured by American soldiers and Allied forces – the Greatest Generation – are besmirched by the mindless insult of an ignorant punk.
There is additional irony that the very freedom to inscribe that hateful symbol, albeit in less criminal fashion, has been protected by those sacrifices of my father and so very, very many of his compatriots who defended our country during the Second World War.
Perhaps a fitting punishment for the vandal’s crimes would be to force him to clean the beaches at Normandy for a year. With his tongue.
