One person has been confirmed killed in an accident that occurred on Red Mountain Pass on Thursday evening.
“The vehicle went off the road and down a steep embankment,” said Trooper Josh Lewis with the Colorado State Patrol. “I can confirm a fatality, but I don’t have any of the details yet.”
The vehicle was a 2013 Volkswagen registered in Oregon. Because it is from out of state, it may take longer to get information, he said.
The State Patrol received the call just before 7 p.m. Lewis said troopers had closed one lane of traffic by 7:30 p.m. while working the accident.
“Traffic is still moving,” he said at 8:30 p.m., “but it’s still one lane alternating.”
