It’s far easier to misrepresent and malign elected officials, as some letter writers have done, rather than instead step up to the plate and take on the responsibility and work of being a city councilor.
Over the last four years, our City Council and city staff have addressed innumerable issues, some controversial and urgent, affecting the city’s financial stability and quality of life. These include approval of the comprehensive plan, vacation rentals, ADUs, upgrading our airport, multi-modal transportation and trolley fees, our beloved river corridor, including bike lanes, the half-cent recreation tax, Chapman Hill, sewer and water infrastructure, a new sewage-treatment plant and many more.
Discussions regarding all of these topics and the decisions made were done in public in a thoughtful and trusting manner. Our councilors always have had the best interest of our city in mind. When needed, they were flexible enough to revisit and change a few previous decisions. Instead of complaining in print, please talk to them in person.
Instead of voting on single-issue topics, I urge voters to think about how much our City Council has accomplished over the last four challenging and decision-rich years. Please, re-elect Dick White and Sweetie Marbury: They worked hard for our city and deserve your vote.
