Par for the course: Once the Durango High School girls soccer team got back to “our style of soccer,” the Demons got a win.
The Demons beat Southwestern League rival Montezuma-Cortez 2-0 on Tuesday in Cortez.
“We started off slow in the first half, and then we came into the second ... we actually took our time,” DHS head coach Dalon Parker said.
Bella Bernazzani and Lauren Morsi scored both second-half goals for the win.
“We started with what I guess we’d call poking and prodding,” Parker said.
Once the Demons started to find the gaps and channels in the Panthers’ scrunched-up defense, “We were able to find the last piece of the puzzle and finish,” the Demons’ first-year head coach said.
Parker said all that’s left for the Demons (8-3-1, 5-2-1 SWL) to do is fine-tune the various parts of their defense and attack as they finish up their playoff push.
Durango will host Palisade at 5 p.m. Friday at the Riverview Sports Complex.
