Colorado Gives Day is coming up on Tuesday, and it includes a strong list of La Plata County nonprofits. Participating in the attention around the support day, initiated by Community First Bank’s foundation in 2007, is an easy opportunity to provide working revenue to nonprofits that are doing good work.
We suggest searching by area, Southwest, on the ColoradoGives.org site. There look to be about 75 organizations participating, including, as you might imagine, education, biking, health, energy efficiency, public radio and open space. Plus other specialties wide and narrow, too many to list. All have a description of their work and a few photos.
Statewide organizations are on the Gives’ site, of course, if the search is larger. While the large names are certainly an asset for Coloradans, they may not be as focused on our southwest corner as those that are headquartered on Main Avenue and whose staff members we know.
Last year, about $50 million was raised on Colorado Gives Day.
Organizations apply to be included, and the software allows giving to occur during the full calendar year. The Gives Day is accounted for separately. According to Gives’ site, the bank’s foundation assesses a 2% handling fee, and as an incentive, a $1 million match is provided. On $50 million, that would be a wash for participating nonprofits.
On Tuesday, open up ColoradoGives.org and be supportive. La Plata County’s nonprofits are an important part of what makes living – and visiting – here so appealing.
