It is tempting to say the proposed bridge connecting the Animas River Trail has become controversial, but that may not be the most precise way of describing the torrent of letters we have received decrying it and the very idea of it, based largely on
We had the opportunity to meet with Mayor Melissa Youssef Tuesday, and separately with City Councilor Kim Baxter. Youssef wants to see the project move forward in some form. Baxter thinks there may be a better solution for safety than the bridge. Of particular interest to us and perhaps to the bridge’s critics are new and improved artist renderings of the bridge, which Youssef hopes will show it to much greater advantage.
All sides can probably agree that a project this big needs more buy-in from residents, who will be paying for and looking at it for years to come.
Youssef says the new renderings will be posted on the city website next week, in advance of the first of four meetings where residents are invited to comment:
