Local Benefit Days to be held at Purgatory

Heart Safe La Plata has been selected as a recipient of a Local Benefit Day at Purgatory Resort. Along with Trails 2000, La Plata Family Centers Coalition, and Be F.R.A.N.K, they will share the proceeds on the final Benefit Day this Sunday.

Pricing will be reduced to $45 for adults, $32 for teenagers and seniors and $25 for children and super seniors.

There will be a coupon to print and to bring to get this special rate. Purgatory will also host a demo day Sunday with seven local gear shops on the mountain offering demos of their latest equipment. For a $10 charge there will be unlimited demos and all of the money collected will go to the four nonprofit recipients.

Wolf Creek Fun Race series to continue

Wolf Creek Ski Area’s Fun Race series will continue Sunday. The event is free and open to all skiers and boarders of all ages and abilities.

An award ceremony with medals and prizes will be held at 3:30 p.m.

Senior Outdoor events are announced

Senior Outdoors announces the following events:

WW hike: A hike on the Animas River Trail from Santa Rita to Home Depot and back will take place at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. No RSVP required. Dogs must be on leash, per city ordinance. For more information, call 247-1130.

Horse Gulch and Cuchillo Loop hike will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The hike starts at the Horse Gulch trailhead located at East 3rd Street after it crosses Highway 3. Dogs are allowed only if on a leash at all times. There is no limit and no carpool fee.

A hike of the Falls Creek Trails with a chance to explore further to the north will take place at 9 a.m. April 1. Participants should drive a short distance up Junction Creek Road, then turn north toward Falls Creek sub-division and take one of the several trails on the right side of the road going north farther on up the road.
