Agency reminds snowmobilers on safety
Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds snowmobilers to travel safely this winter and to review state regulations that apply to this activity.
A maintenance and basic avalanche workshop will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Ridgway State Park Visitors Center.
At the beginning of the season, snowmobilers should thoroughly inspect their machines. Check the track and belts for abnormal wear, clean and replace spark plugs and change fluids. Closely inspect the skis, A-arms, suspension, and check the steering system. Be sure to carry the owner’s manual, be familiar with how to make repairs in the field and how to tow a machine with another snowmobile. Inspect clothing and other safety equipment. Be aware of snow depths in riding areas. Always check local snow and weather conditions. It is recommended that snowmobilers take an avalanche safety course, and carry shovels, probes and avalanche beacons.
Snowmobilers also should be familiar with the American Council of Snowmobile Associations Code of Ethics.
