Seniors Outdoors will host these events:
The Monday Durango Area Bike Ride will begin from Home Depot. Helmets and gloves are required. For more information, call Jim Newman at 884-7717 or email Newmanji10@aol.com.
The general meeting will be held Tuesday at the Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave. Backcountry Experience will present “Hiking Tips and Hiking Gear for the Discerning Hiker.” A social time will begin at 6:30 p.m., and the meeting will begin at 7 p.m.

A hard hike and climb of Eagle Mountain in the San Luis Valley north of Del Norte will take place Wednesday. High-clearance vehicles are needed. No dogs are allowed. To RSVP, call John Bregar at 385-1814 or email jdbregar@optimum.net.

Battle of the Animas race set for May 28
Local restaurants, tourist shops and lodging establishments will challenge each other again May 28 in the 13th annual Battle of the Animas, a head-to-head, paddle-rafting race down the Animas River.
Teams are urged to reserve their spot now as space is limited and availability is based on a first-come, first-served basis. A team photo will be presented to all teams.
Teams will sign in at 10 a.m. race day at event sponsor Mild to Wild Rafting and Jeep Trail Tours, and the race will start at 11 a.m. Steamworks Brewing Co. will host a closing ceremony and trophy presentation with complimentary barbecue starting at 12:30 p.m.

Construction scheduled for Geyser Springs Trail
Construction of a bridge to allow trail users to cross the West Dolores River on the Geyser Springs Trail (Forest Trail No. 648) will begin June 2.
Trail users will be able to continue to cross the river on rocks during the bridge construction, but caution is advised. Construction is anticipated to last through mid-July.
The Geyser Springs Trail accesses the only true geyser in Colorado.
To get to the trailhead, go 12 miles east of Dolores on Colorado Highway 145 and turn left on West Dolores Road (Forest Road 535). Go 23.3 miles to the trailhead.
