Ouray to host Jeep raffle Saturday
The annual Ouray Oktoberfest celebration and the 50th annual live Jeep Raffle drawing will take place from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Ouray Community Center, 320 6th Ave.
Tickets are $10 for adults and include a 50th anniversary Jeep Raffle commemorative mug. Children and students under 18 are free. Authentic German food will be sold.
Door prizes, competitions and awards also will take place. The Jeep will be awarded at a live drawing at 9 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are one for $5, three for $10, and seven for $20 and are available by contacting the Ouray Visitor Center at (970) 325-4746 or visiting www.ouraycolorado.com. Jeep Raffle proceeds fund the Ouray fireworks displays throughout the year, student scholarships and community events.
Mountain Bike Specialists recognized
Mountain Bike Specialists, 949 Main Ave., was chosen as one of “America’s Best Bike Shops” by Bicycle Retailer and Industry News.
Bicycle shops were judged on their community outreach, advocacy outreach, overall professionalism and industry involvement. In addition to a written evaluation, Bicycle Retailer and Industry News sent a “secret shopper” to Durango.
The cleanliness of the building was judged, the visual appearance of the store, the creativity of the displays, check-out procedures, signs and background music. Employees were judged on their greeting, accessibility, responsiveness and welcoming attitudes.

Ladies-only pistol class to be offered Oct. 11
The Bayfield Lions Club & Wolverine School of Personal Safety will host a Ladies-Only Basic Defensive Pistol class from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 11 at the Bayfield Lions Club/Art Davis Range on County Road 223.
Hearing and eye protection will be necessary; sunglasses are acceptable. The rifle/pistol range will be closed to all other shooting during this event. Husbands and boyfriends are not invited. Ladies of any experience are welcome; bring handguns and ammunition.
Participants will learn basic safety and defensive shooting skills or hone the ones they already have. An experienced NRA instructor and assistants will run the class and be available to answer questions. The class is free but donations are appreciated and will go the Bayfield Lions Club.
