First Locals Benefit Day at DMR will be Sunday

The first Locals Benefit Day at Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort will take place Sunday, hosted by the Medicine Horse Center.

Lift tickets for Locals Benefit Day are priced at $40 for adults, $32 for young adults (ages 13-17) and seniors (65-79), $25 for kids (6-12 years) and super seniors (80-plus).

A coupon must be presented at the ticket window for the discount. Coupons will be available at www.SkiPurg.com/benefitday. People also can purchase a Locals Benefit Day four-day punch card for $99 at the DMR Bodo Industrial Park office or at the ticket office on the mountain and ski all designated Locals Days.

Sexual Assault Services Organization, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Colorado and Annie’s Orphans will benefit from the remaining three Locals Benefit Days.

Seniors Outdoors announces activities

Seniors Outdoors will host these activities:

Snowshoeing or cross-country skiing will take place Saturday. To be placed on the notification list for details about destination and difficulty, call John Martin at 247-2581 or email jmartin@mydurango.net.

A cross-country ski tour in the area around Molas Pass/Andrews Lake will take place Sunday. Advanced beginners to intermediate skiers can RSVP to Bill Cagle at cagle81301@yahoo.com.

The Wednesday Wanderers will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Santa Rita Park to walk the Animas River Trail. RSVP is not required. Dogs must be on a leash. For more information, call Eric Pahlke at 247-1130.

A snowshoe hike with Betsy Peterson or a cross-country ski with Howard Drake will take place Wednesday in the Gladstone to Storm Peak Basin area near Silverton. To RSVP, call Betsy Petersen at 259-5417 or email betsyp@bresnan.net.

An easy snowshoe is planned for Thursday on the Lime Creek Road. To RSVP, call Rich Butler at 403-3185. For more information, email rbbutler54@gmail.com.

Downhill ski groups are available. For more information or to be placed on the group distribution list, email Bruce Rodman at Mtnman16@gmail.com. Meeting days and times vary according to skiers’ abilities and snow conditions.
