Fish-barrier installation to affect road, camping
Installation of a fish barrier on the East Fork of Hermosa Creek will require temporary closure of about 15 acres of National Forest lands to parking and dispersed camping along half-mile of the Hermosa Park Road (Forest Road No. 578) near the Upper Hermosa trailhead from Sept. 30 to Nov. 1.
Public access to the trailhead and parking lot will remain open and will not be affected; however, the public is asked to observe and follow posted signs in the area and to watch for heavy equipment.
The project is the first part of implementation for the Hermosa Creek and East Fork Hermosa Creek fish barriers project, which will continue the recovery effort of Colorado River cutthroat trout in the Hermosa Roadless Area.
A copy of the final environmental assessment and the decision notice are available at www.fs.usda.gov/goto/sanjuan/projects.
For more information, call Clay Kampf at 385-1220.
People sought for Sportsmen’s Roundtable
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is seeking a new representative to serve on the Sportsmen’s Roundtable for the Southwest Region.
The agency is seeking applications from active hunters and anglers, and is particularly interested in applications from women, minorities and youths.
The roundtable is a process to assure hunters and anglers can provide input, concerns and discuss issues with agency leaders. The group is scheduled to meet twice each year, and representatives will have two additional meetings in their respective regions.
The Southwest Region includes the area from the Four Corners to the San Luis Valley, the Gunnison Basin, the North Fork Valley and the Montrose-Delta area west to the state line.
Interested people should send a one-page letter that explains their interest in wildlife and why they want to serve on the roundtable to Joe Lewandowski at joe.lewandowski@state.co.us or to 415 Turner Drive, Durango, CO, 81303. Application deadline is Oct. 15.
