Seniors Outdoors announces activities

Seniors Outdoors will host these activities:

A moderate, 5-mile hike with 600 feet elevation gain on the Melanie High Line Trail will take place Saturday. Dogs are not allowed. To RSVP, email Jan Collins at jcvmona@yahoo.com or call 382-0211.

A challenging, 13-mile hike with 2,500-feet elevation gain will start at the Highland Mary Lakes Trailhead on Monday. Dogs are not allowed. To RSVP, call Charlie Berglund at 247-9747 or email chasberglund@msn.com.

A challenging, 7- to 8-mile climb of Snowdon Peak with 2,300 feet elevation gain and some exposed scrambling will take place Tuesday. Dogs are not allowed. To RSVP, call Lynn Coburn at 247-0914 or email harrisoncoburn@gmail.com.

A moderate, 4-mile loop hike around Chris Park and Miners Trace with 700 feet elevation gain will take place Wednesday. Dogs are not allowed. Nonmembers should RSVP to Dorothy Bregar at 385-1814 or email dorothy.bregar@yahoo.com.

A hard, 4-mile climb of Bonita Peak with 1,500 feet elevation gain will take place Thursday. To RSVP, call Bill Cagle at 385-4566 or email cagle81301@yahoo.com.

DMR to host adventure race Aug. 10

Durango Mountain Resort will host the second annual First National Bank of Durango Muck and Mire on the Mountain on Aug. 10.

Race participants will test their endurance on more than a dozen obstacles stationed around the mountain in the 10-kilometer, 5K and 1-mile Mini Muck and Mire for kids events.

The 10K race is designed for more serious competitors who will participate in challenges such as a mud pit, high hurdles, tires, slip ’n’ slide, cargo nets, culvert crawl, balance beam and wall climbs.

The 5K event is designed for families and recreational contenders.

After the 5K and 10K events, kids can participate in the Backcountry Experience Mini Muck and Mire 1-mile fun run.

A postevent celebration, with a DJ, beer garden and soda party sponsored by Steamworks Brewing Co. and Durango Coca-Cola will feature awards and prizes for a variety of categories.

This year’s beneficiary will be Durango School District 9-R. Participants are encouraged to bring school supplies that will be donated to the school district.
