Navajo State Park announces programs
Navajo State Park will host these programs:
Kid’s Story Time featuring Will Hobbs, a writer based in the Four Corners, will take place at 6:30 p.m. today at the visitors center. Hobbs will present “BearDream,” stories and tales about the Ute Indian culture and the tribe’s “Bear Dance.”
A Gyotaku class, the traditional art of Japanese fish painting, will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Rosa Campground shower building. The technique was developed as a method of recording the size and species of fish caught.
“Heart of the Dinetah” will be presented at 7 p.m. Saturday at the visitor’s center. The presentation will explain the cultural significance of the Navajo Lake area to the Navajo people from about 1400 to the mid-1800s.
A walking tour of the Lakefront Trail will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday. The park naturalist will discuss the area’s geological and archaeological history, and talk about wildlife and insects that flourish along the lake’s edge. Participants should wear hiking shoes and bring water and a snack.

Seniors Outdoors! announces activities
Seniors Outdoors! will host these activities:
A trip to view scenic natural bridges and arches east of Aztec will start at 8:30 a.m. Sunday. The group will drive to Cedar Hill, then travel southeast on county and well roads to see arches in Hart, Alamo, Caballo, Crow and Pump canyons. The trip will include many short and easy walks. A Wednesday Wanderers hike to No Name Trail will meet at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday. The trail is accessed from the Parks and Wildlife road leading off Lightner Creek Road. People should meet at the parking lot off Lightner Creek Road and caravan to the trailhead. Dogs must be on leash. Nonmembers should RSVP to Sharron Chambers at 259-9271 or email lightnerload@gmail.com.
A climb of Diorite Peak from Tomahawk Basin will take place at 9 a.m. May 31. The length of this climb will depend on snow conditions. Although this will be a challenging climb, the pace will be kept moderate. Carpool is available for $6. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are required. No dogs are allowed. DMR announces summer activities
Durango Mountain Resort announces these activities:
A Sky Hike Adventure Ropes Course will open in June in the plaza. Among course features will be net bridges, wooden beams and rope ladders.
Water Runners will be available in the plaza. People can float, walk, run and roll on the water’s surface inside a transparent bubble.
Summer activities will begin Saturday with the Quarter Horse to Purgatory.
Other events will include Music in the Mountains, July 11-28; Muck & Mire on the Mountain Mud Adventure Race on Aug. 10; Mushroom Festival Dinner and Hunt, Aug. 16 and 17; Mutt ’n’ Strut Family 5K Fun Run benefiting Annie’s Orphans on June 29; Backcountry Experience Firecracker 5K on July 7; and the Trailburner 10K on Aug. 18.
