Trails 2000 launches 2D map
Trails 2000 has launched a new, interactive 2D online map and mobile application.
The map, which is available online at www.Trails2000.org, features more than 500 miles of mapped trails in Durango and the surrounding area.
Trails 2000 received a grant from Esri, a mapping software company, which built the map with the assistance of GIS expert James Gustine of the Southern Ute Growth Fund.
The map uses modern web technology to create information-rich mapping files. Features include elevation profiles, information windows that open with each trail, the ability to save maps as PDFs and a new, faster mobile application file (downloadable at www.trails2000.org) that shows where people are in relation to the trails. Upon launching the map online, users can access a video tutorial that shows how to use the new features.
While the map is in its initial stages, Trails 2000 invites comments and feedback from the public. The first five people who submit suggestions that are implemented will receive a swag package from Trails 2000. Comments can be emailed to info@trails2000.org.
