LPEA supports Sight-in Days

In an effort to both assist hunters and protect valuable electrical equipment, La Plata Electric Association will resume its underwriting support of “Sight-in Days” from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 8-9, 15-16, and 29-30 at the Durango Gun Club Outdoor Range, located on La Posta Road (County Road 213).

The gun club will be open to the general public/hunters for rifle scope sighting, and hunters are encouraged to take advantage of the controlled environment to prepare their firearms for the season. LPEA has contributed $500 to cover costs incurred by the club for the Sight-in Days. Durango Gun Club staff, plus volunteer club members, will be on hand to answer questions, provide assistance and do minor firearms repair. Donations to the club are welcomed, but no payment is required.

Lions Club sponsors Ladies Day Shoot

The Bayfield Lions Club & Wolverine School of Personal Safety will host a Ladies only Basic Defensive Pistol class from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at the Bayfield Lions Club/Art Davis Range located on County Road 223.

Hearing and eye protection will be necessary, sun glasses are acceptable. The rifle/pistol range will be closed to all other shooting during this event. Men are not invited. Ladies of any experience are welcome; and should bring handguns and ammunition. Participants will learn basic safety and defensive shooting skills or hone the ones they already have. An experienced instructor and assistants will run the class and be available to answer questions. Registration is not required. The class is free but donations will go the Bayfield Lions Club.

Seniors Outdoors announces activities

Seniors Outdoors will offer these activities:

A hike of Castle Rock will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Participants should bring hot dogs and brats for a cookout. The cost to carpool is $4. Dogs are allowed. To RSVP, email Clark Lagow at clagow@rmi.net or call 259-9337.

A hike on the Pine River Trail will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday. The hike will be taken at a moderate pace. Well-behaved dogs are allowed. The cost to carpool is $5. Participants should meet at the fire station on Florida Road and County 234 at 8:45 a.m., or the trailhead at 9:30 a.m. The trailhead is located near Pine River campground on a gravel road. A Monday bike ride for intermediate road cyclists will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday. This is a no-drop, social ride of 16 miles (round-trip) from Home Depot to Bread. Participants will meet in the south parking lot at Home Depot. A hike of Fisher Towers – Mystery Canyons will take place from Monday to Wednesday. These will be three days of tough off-trail hiking and scrambling, including some exposure, through complicated red-rock country north of Moab, Utah. There will be two nights of car-camping. A hike on Cave Basin Trail to Table Mountain and circumnavigation of Table Mountain will take place at 8 a.m. Tuesday. This will be a high elevation hike over relatively easy terrain. The Wednesday Wanderers will hike Hidden Valley at 9 a.m. Wednesday. Participants will learn about the Ancestral Puebloan people who lived in the valley. The hike is on established trails with some ups and downs. Trail mannered dogs are welcome. Nonmembers and people with dogs should RSVP to Becky Rodefer at 247-4115.

Downhill skiers and boarders are invited to get acquainted or reacquainted at a potluck gathering from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Rodman home in the Skyridge neighborhood. There may be small monetary collection for provision of plates and utensils. Participants should bring their own beverages and dish to share. San Juan Sledders to meet

The San Juan Sledders will meet Thursday at South Serious Texas BBQ, 650 South Camino del Rio. Dinner will take place at 6 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7 p.m.
